Abstract

Honey has been used for many purposes in traditional medicine. This article provides a comprehensive overview of honey, its types, and specific varieties like Acacia, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, Clover, Eucalyptus, Jamun, Lavender, Manuka, Rosemary, and Sage honey. The content delves into their respective characteristics, health benefits, and nutritional compositions. Notably, the potential benefits of honey, particularly high-grade types, in addressing various eye conditions such as keratoconjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, blepharitis, dry eyes, bacterial conjunctivitis, and preventive care for wrinkles have been highlighted. The antimicrobial anti-inflammatory and soothing properties of honey is responsible for its therapeutic potential. Numerous antioxidants, such as flavonoids and polyphenols, are found in honey. These antioxidants aid in the body's defense against free radicals, which can cause inflammation and other health problems. Eye drops containing honey are available for application, However, caution is advised, emphasizing the need for further research and professional consultation before applying honey directly to the eyes.
